Album: Seafair Marathon (59 images)

Here is a set of pictures from Tom's running of the Seafair Marathon on June 29th. The race started at Husky Stadium, then crossed the 520 bridge before going on a tour of the Eastside through Bellevue and Kirkland.

There's nothing like heading out the door at 5:30 in the morning after getting less than three hours of sleep. Taking the (free) shuttle from Bellevue Square over to Husky Stadium. I was lucky enough to get a seat. View from the 520 bridge, Westbound looking North. A broader view, plus the reflection of the camera in the window. Nice houses. More nice houses. It looked so serene in the morning before all the boaters swarmed it. Looking across at Husky Stadium from the 520 bridge. I've arrived! It's kind of weird seeing so many people in running shorts. The Seafair Pirates made an appearance to start the race. Pirates again. Kristina, Tom, and Tom's mom. Kristina looks thrilled to be awake so early. Tom and me. People beginning to assemble at the starting line. More people. Looking in the other direction. The poilce were trying (unsuccessfully) to get them out of the road. Getting ready to start. They had a record 5000 runners this year. And they're off! For the people in the back the run started off as a leisurely stroll. The last people beginning to make their way out. They're clearing out, must be time to hop on the shuttle back to Bellevue. I tried to get a picture of the Space Needle from the bus on I-5. It didn't work out so well. A grimy look back at the stdium through the bus window. Trying for the Space Needle again. Finally, one that turned out well. Now if someone could just moce that crane out of the way. Qwest field. Safeco field. How Northwest: crossing the lake on a floating bridge, watching a water-skier with Mt. Rainier in the background. I see Tom! Not really, it's hard just to see 520 from here. The emrgency exit hatch was bouncing all over the place from the freeway wind. The first course viewing area, just South of Bellevue Downtown Park. Tom actually beat us here, so I don't have a picture of him coming through. This is roughly mile 6.5. Looking back up at downtown Bellevue. It's those pesky pirates again. Pirates and runners. Hey, we know that guy. Coming up on mile 11. The view of downtown Seattle from Marina Park in Kirkland. You may just barely be able to see 520 in the distance. Hopefully all the runners have finished crossing it by now. The New & Imprived view, now with Art! Here comes Tom, approaching a hill at mile 21. Kristina joined him for a ways to help with the towelling off. At the finish line in Bellevue Downtown Park. The view was pretty nice. There's the finish line. We just barely caught a glimpse of Tom as he was coming up. He's looking surprisingly good for someone who's just run 26.2 miles in hot, sunny weather. Downtown Bellevue again. There was a big, cool waterfall in the park. Tom coming through the finishing area. This was a pretty nice place to end a race. Tom and Kristina. Tom and his mom. Me and Tom. The Westin hotel looming in the distance. Bellevue is in a perpetual state of construction. Tom found a wheelchair. Taking a well deserved break. Later than evening... are you kidding me?! Check it out! Tom came in second in his age group, and 21st overall! A bright golden red sunset to end the day.
