Album: Spike & Dig 2009 (60 images)

Tom, Gildas, Kristina, and I ventured over the mountains for the 2009 Spike & Dig volleyball tournament in Spokane. Though we didn't win a lot, we did have a great time, and I'm looking forward to heading back next year.

Our team, ready to start on day 1. Warming up before the first match. I hope I just bumped that, otherwise there's no way I'm going to hit it. Tom post-bump. Katie going up for a spike. Well that doesn't look effective. Tom and I are prepped for the incoming spike. It's hard to tell what's happening when you don't know which way the ball is going. Out! Nice set Gildas. Hopefully I'm watching the ball and not staring off into space. Gildas mid-serve. I'd better get those hands together, that looks suspiciously like a carry. Tom getting us ready for the next match. I think I'm getting ready to set that. Or maybe I just did. Hard to tell. Kristina finishing a bump. Something interesting must have happened. Gildas is crouched way down, and the net is waving like crazy. I'm probably trying to track an incoming serve while keeping the sun out of my eyes. Krsitina and Tom on the move. Another Gildas power serve. Kristina wisely letting a ball go out. Erica's patented reverse bump from the front row. Check out all those nets! Lots of canopies too. I think there were over 200 teams. Some inflatable toys for the kids to play on. I think those legs belong to Katie and Erica. Over the wall at the end of the obstacle course. Gildas and me taking a break in some shade. The tournament was at Spokane Falls Community College. Another pre-game warm up. Nice set Gildas! That can't be good. Bump! Kristina does a reverse bump. I either just set that or it's going to hit me in the face. Me setting Kristina. Tom finishing a serve. Gildas digging deep. Nice work! Tom jumping for a block, despite his gimped ankle. Get that dig! Bump! Jaren digging. Kristina doing a running serve. Well, we tried to block it. For the record those nets were crazy low. I think Jaren just buimped it to Tom. We went over to watch some division A games. They played like this non-stop. Check out that altitude on the jumps! This guy has got to be 3 feet off theground for his jump-serve. Wow. After our last match of the day we retreated to the Spokane (?) River. A weird burned out hole in a tree along the river. The guys braving the chilly water. Nicely shaded beach. I liked the overhanging branches. Looks like Erica just noticed how cold it was. Katie and Erica. Tom and Jaren swam out to the island in the middle of the river. Clambering around, being proud of themselves until they saw the little kids who had also swum out there. Katie and Erica decided to make the trip out as well.
